In this issue of Hot Press...(free content)
In the new Hot Press (published Thursday, May 17th), Minister for Finance Brian Cowen talks about his about his dalliance with dope and the Rainbow coalition’s ”con job”.
Also in the new issue, Gerry Adams shares his views on teenage drinking, while Trevor Sargent waxes lyrical about God and Cameron Diaz!
Brian Cowen on Inhaling Cannabis
In a wide-ranging interview with HOTPRESS, Brian Cowen admits smoking cannabis, “there were a couple of occasions when it was passed around – and, unlike President Clinton, I did inhale!”
The Taoiseach’s second-in-command also claims that the Fine Gael-Labour election promises are misleading: “They are spending the same money twice. People need to analyse what is going on here. This is a con job – plain and simple… This is treating people as if they’re fools.”
Gerry Adams on Sinn Fein Government Alliances and Teenage Drinking
Although all other parties have said they will not go into government with Sinn Fein, in a separate interview, Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams takes this with a pinch of salt, “Go and ask any Sinn Fein councillor how many councillors from Fine Gael, Labour, Fianna Fail, and others, have lined-up, looking for votes in the Senate… what some of these people are about is power, at any price.”
When asked about teenage drinking Adams says, “There is no harm in a teenager going out and having a few pints at the weekend.”
Trevor Sargent on the Bible and Sex Symbols
In a third interview in the Hot Press Election special, Green Party leader Trevor Sargent's tells how his political motivation lies in God, "I'm driven in politics by the belief that this is what God wants me to do. I read the bible every day."
When asked about his favourite sex symbol Sargent points to Justin Timberlake’s former belle, "I know that Cameron Diaz has a very ecological outlook in many ways (laughs). She would certainly engage me in riveting conversation!"
Hot Press uncovers online scam to fool Phil Lynott fans worldwide
We also investigate the unscrupulous online dealer who is conning Phil Lynott fans worldwide. In what has all the appearances of a pre-meditated con job, artefacts are currently being offered on Internet auction site eBay under false pretences.
Hot Press has identified eBay member 265 as Chris Hewitt, who lives outside Manchester – the individual who has been putting ads on eBay offering what purport to be rare Thin Lizzy books.
One of those offered is the biography My Boy, published by Hotpress Books, which Hewitt has been selling for £85 GBP. On eBay, it’s described as “Brand new, out of print, with signed loose insert page.” This description is clearly misleading as the book is not out of print and is currently available on hotpress.com for €15.95 and on Amazon.
In addition, the loose insert page is merely a printed sheet of the signature of Philomena Lynott – who is angry at the exploitation of her son’s name and work, “These poetry books are not original copies at all. And my signature on them is just a photocopy. It doesn’t matter who printed them – I never gave authorization for my signature to be copied in this way on any book.”
Asked this week by Hot Press to elaborate on where he got his supply of Philip Lynott poetry books from, Chris Hewitt says: “We bought them at a Thin Lizzy convention in Edinburgh from the stallholder. I have seen him at other record and Lizzy product fairs. I suggest that Philomena takes it up with him. If she attends some of the regular record book fairs round the UK – especially Scottish ones – she will see the man with the books.”
