Hozier, Graham Norton & Sarah Silverman among those celebrating 'Yes' vote!
The joy over today's victory has spread worldwide
There's been lots of rock 'n' roll reaction to the resounding 'Yes' vote in Ireland's Same-Sex Marriage Referendum.
"The pure joy of it!" enthuses Hozier who flew back specially yesterday to vote. "I'm so proud of Ireland today. We can all take pride in making history. Only sorry I can't be there to celibrate."
"This is a shining day in Irish history," agrees Lisa Hannigan. "A beautiful shining day."
"Blubbering like a baby," says Conor J. O'Brien who was out canvassing this week in Dublin with David O'Doherty for a 'Yes' vote. "So much love for Ireland right now."
"What an amazing thing to wake up and see what's happening back home," James Vincent McMorrow tweets from Canada. "Can't think of a day when I was more proud to be Irish."
"There are tears in my eyes," admits SOAK. "Congratulations Ireland. It's your turn next Northern Ireland."
The joy isn't confined to these shores with Elbow's Guy Garvey describing the emphatic victory as "life affirming."
Currently getting ready to helm BBC's coverage of the Eurovision final in Vienna, Graham Norton says: "Congratulations Ireland! The journey the country has made during my lifetime leaves me so very proud, happy and amazed. Group hug!"
"Congratulations to the Republic on saying 'yes' to same-gender marriage," proffers Ian McKellan. "Now what about Northern Ireland?"
"Here at the Hay Festival - almost no signal but news in that Ireland's Yes Campaign has carried the day," messages Stephen Fry. "So so happy. Oscar smiles in his grave."
"Huge sense of pride over what has happened in Ireland, tempered by massive sadness that I'm missing the bloody party," is Dara O Briain's take on matters.
On the other side of the Atlantic, Sarah Silverman enthuses: "Republic of Ireland leads the world in social progress by legalising marriage for all. Love wins - shouldn't it always?"
Indeed it should, Sarah!
