Hinds On Becoming Spain's Biggest Rock Export
The Madrid four-piece admit that a Spanish version of The Strokes or Arctic Monkeys does not exist in their home nation.
In the new issue of Hot Press, Hinds, the latest guitar band darlings, chat about how they've risen over the past twelve months, to become the most talked about garage group in the world.
"All the big bands in Spain make music that we don't like," says the vocalist-guitarist Ana Perrote. "There is no Spanish equivalent of The Strokes or Arctic Monkeys. The Spanish independent scene is very small and tough to break out of."
"We are making history in our country," Perrote says. She is completely right. Following in the footsteps of countless Northern European bands, the Spanish all-female ensemble decided to sing in English, instead of their native tongue.
Read more about Hinds' meteoric rise, turning their back on their mother tongue, the controversial court case over their original name Deers, and their feelings on the death of music icon David Bowie, all in the latest issue of Hot Press.
