Hidden Fermanagh: Traditional Music And Songs From County Fermanagh, Volume 2
These Fermanagh-based musicians and singers are a real find, especially the bouncy opening track, ably played on fiddle by Brenda McCann.
Following up on Volume 1 of the same title, this is the second CD produced in support of the book Hidden Fermanagh, released in November 2003. Like its predecessor, the new album features a range of Fermanagh-based musicians and singers, with the emphasis on rarely-heard tunes from the Gunn manuscript, written about 1850 and now residing on an island in Upper Lough Erne. They’re a real find, especially the bouncy opening track, ably played on fiddle by Brenda McCann. Other highlights include the powerful-voiced Rosie Stewart with a magnificent a cappella rendition of ‘Green-Robed Inisfail’ and Cathal McConnell (of Boys of the Lough fame) duetting with his brother Mickey on a hilarious song written by their father about an ill-fated pair of second-hand trousers.
