The Hot Press MIX (Music Industry Xplained) Course returns next week with Jackie Hayden addressing students for the first lecture of the year. The course is aimed at those seeking careers in - and already employed in - the music industry or music media.
Ahead of the first lecture of 2015 we spoke to Jackie about the key areas he’ll address on the night.
“The Internet is an invaluable channel for musicians to communicate directly with their audiences, but knowing how to exploit that facility is the challenge facing all musicians and those who work with them,” says respected music journalist and author Jackie Hayden.
Hayden will make the keynote address at the opening of the Hot Press MIX Course at Dublin’s Brooks Hotel on Tuesday, February 3 at 7.30pm.
In his address, Hayden will argue that: "It used to be said that we should think global but act local. Musicians today can think global and act global. As Ireland continues to be a fertile breeding ground for talent that can compete with the best the world can offer, our acknowledged skills as innovative technocrats open new pathways to audiences that range from the local streets to the furthest ends of the earth.”
Hayden will clarify the income streams available to musicians and will point up the basics of sales and marketing music in the digital age. He will also use the latest figures available to explore the current state of play regarding physical CD sales, downloads, streaming and live performance.
MIX 2015 is an 13-week series of lectures (one each week) by top professional experts from the Irish and International music industry. Kicking off on Tuesday February 3rd there are limited places still available. For more information or to secure your place call Elena on (01) 241 1500 or email [link][email protected][/link]
