Happy Birthday, Whitney Houston
The iconic singer would be 53 today.
In one of our more melancholy birthday articles, we're looking back on the career of the late Whitney Houston, who would be celebrating her 53rd birthday today. She passed away back in 2012 due to combining factors including drug use and heart disease. Though she died far too soon, she had a fantastically successful career and is heralded as one of the greatest American pop singers. All her nine albums, seven of which were studio albums and two of which were film soundtracks, reached diamond, multi-platinum, platinum, or gold status. In 2009, The Guinness Book Of World Records listed her as most awarded female act in history. After her death in 2012, her album The Ultimate Collection jumped to the top five on the Irish album charts, surpassing Lana Del Rey.
Today's artists have been taking to Twitter to give their well wishes to the late pop star.
Whitney Houston, thank you. I'm blessed to have been exposed to your gift when I was young. I truly appreciate all you gave to this world.
