Having played alongside the likes of B.B. King, Keith Richards and Bob Dylan, American jazz/rock legend Larry Coryell makes his maiden voyage to Ireland
The legend that is Larry Coryell will grace the Green Room with his considerable presence on Sunday, August 15.
It is Coryell’s first visit to Ireland and Irish ‘trad-queen’ and songstress of the day, Melanie O’Reilly, will be joining him live.
Those doubting his Guitar God status should know that on his last tour of Europe, the guitar teacher to Hendrix and Clapton was invited to join B.B. King, Keith Richards, Bob Dylan and Les Paul in a ‘Guitar Greats’ concert in Spain.
Hailing from Galveston, Texas, he co-founded The Free Spirits, with whom he recorded one album, Free Spirit (1966). He later worked with Roy Ayers and influential jazz guitarist, Sonny Sharrock. Before going solo in 1969, Coryell toured Europe with ex-Cream bassist, Jack Bruce, Hendrix drummer, Mitch Mitchell and (now) Coryell-keyboardist, Mike Mandell.

Throughout the 80s — although playing almost exclusively acoustic guitar — Larry Coryell continued to break new ground and; if his ambitious avant-garde interpretations of Stravinsky and Ravel are any indication, it seems clear that there is much more to this guitar-slinging virtuoso from Texas than jazz/rock fusion.
Limited tickets are still available to catch Larry Coryell in his only Irish show, at the Green Room of Dublin's Holiday Inn.
Tickets are priced at €20 and can be purchased from the Green Room box office.
