Greta Thunberg has boarded a humanitarian aid ship bound for Gaza wearing a jersey from a collaboration between Fontaines D.C. and Bohemian FC.
The Madleen set sail from the port of Catania in southern Italy with 12 activists on board. It included Irish actor Liam Cunningham, who was seen wearing a Kneecap hat before setting sail.
The mission, operated by the activist group Freedom Flotilla Coalition, aims to break the blockade of Gaza and deliver vital medical and food supplies. It plans to take seven days to reach its final destination.
The jersey worn by Thunberg was released last year to raise funds for the UK-based charity Medical Aid for Palestinians. The limited-edition shirt features the branding of both Fontaines D.C. and Bohemians.
The band reshared footage on their Instagram of Thunberg speaking from the ship.

“We are watching a systematic starvation of 2 million people. A live-streamed genocide and the world's silence is deadly. That is why we have to keep trying everything we can, even if the odds are against us.”

The North Dublin football club have a longstanding record of using football to support social causes. In addition to the Palestine fundraiser, the club recently launched campaigns promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion and hosted the Palestinian women’s national team at Dalymount Park.
Thunberg noted this is not her first attempt to deliver aid by sea to Gaza.
"The last time we attempted this, about a month ago, the boat, Conscience, that we were about to board got bombed twice," she said.
