Grammy awards announce changes to 2027 ceremony
Five new categories will be introduced, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance
The Grammy Awards have announced changes to the 2027 ceremony, including five new categories and updates to the Best New Artist category.
The new categories include Best Asian Pop Music Performance, Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, Best Traditional Folk Album, and Best Latin Song.
The five new categories will increase the total number of awards from 95 to 100.
Previously, artists could be submitted for the Best New Artist category up to three times. This will now increase to four submissions.
The percentage of new recordings required for eligibility has also been lowered from 75% to 66%.
"[These changes] were all inspired by our music community sharing with us that they felt they needed to have more opportunities to celebrate different and new genres of music.”, said Harvey Manson Jr. CEO of the Grammys on their website.
“That is the motivation in all we do: to make sure we're serving music and representing music people accurately, inclusively and representatively,"
The Grammys are set to take place on February 7 and will stream on Disney+.
This year's awards saw a historic first, with Bad Bunny's DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS winning Album of the Year, becoming the first Spanish-language album to do so. Comedian Trevor Noah hosted the ceremony for the sixth and final time.
Kendrick Lamar was the night's biggest winner for the second time, taking home five awards, including Record of the Year for ‘Luther’ and Best Rap Album for GNX.
