Glowing Mouth
Anglophiles unveil a disappointing debut.
Based in Brooklyn but boasting a distinctly British sound, Milagres’ debut is essentially an MOR album dressed up in alternative clothes. Emotional, nostalgic and measured, Glowing Mouth at times is almost like a love letter to Chris Martin and his Coldplay cohorts. ‘Gentle Beast,’ and ‘Halfway’ swoon and sway with those huge piano-led melodies that have made the English lads their millions and the likes of the trancey ‘Lost In The Dark’ will no doubt end up having a special place in the hearts of many Doves fans too. Ultimately though, none of the songs give you that all important rush and there are times (particularly on ‘Here To Stay’ and ‘Gone’) when you feel like Milagres have missed an opportunity. Worth keeping an eye on.
