Free Street-Art Festival for Belfast
The Winter Base festival will take place in the Ulster Hall, Belfast on February 20 and 21, and will include music, live painting and market stalls. Admission will be free.
The event will include some of Belfast’s top bands, such as Pocket Billiards, Cutaways, Nakatomi Towers, The Swell Time, Barry’s Electronic Workshop, and Katie and the Carnival. They will play alongside international artists throughout both days of Winter Base. A special line-up for Saturday night features hotly tipped local music producer Space Dimension Controller, Super Extra Bonus Party, and London electronic act, We Have Band.
Styled as an International Street Art Festival, Winter Base will accommodate a mini urban village featuring street artists from across Ireland, Britain and the rest of Europe. Local artists will sell arts and crafts on both days, with a range of food and drink available.
The 2010 event follows the success of the inaugural Eurocultured Belfast weekend last summer, which has now been renamed ‘Base’, and will take place twice a year.
Gráinne Walsh from Stratagem, the company sponsoring the festival, commented: “Base is a unique event that will bring together some of Europe’s brightest artistic talent and showcase Belfast as a cutting-edge city. It will also create a community atmosphere in the Ulster Hall, bringing people together to enjoy a range of events under one roof.”
