FOX are hosting the ultimate Throwback Thursday as they announce that a small-screen series of the 1987 Lethal Weapon is on its way.
The 20-year anniversary of the buddy-cop franchise is upon us but we will soon be hit with a wave of nostalgia as FOX are going the whole hog with a full length Lethal Weapon TV series.
The original 1987 movie gained massive critical and commercial success which spawned off into 3 more spin-offs. FOX's announcement of an entire series follows a successful Lethal Weapon pilot that aired on the network. Riggs (originally played by Mel Gibson) will be played by Clayne Crawford whilst his lethal sidekick will be Damon Wayans Sr. as Murtaugh. McG is acting executive producer and director of the pilot. Whilst speaking to Empire, he aired his concerns and his ambitions for the upcoming series; "It's extremely tough doing this. I'm thinking all the time about what is it Mel delivered and what is it Danny delivered. What did they do to create that magic and how can I adjust that and capture the essence of what it is, but make it new and work for today? I hope I get Lethal Weapon right or I'm going to feel sick about it for a very long time."
These adaptations from single film to a whole TV series is a rapidly growing trend as TV seems to dominate audience viewing more and more. TV garners more viewers and nowadays often boasts the same quality of feature length films. Fargo has paved the revolutionary way of making this possible and FOX are hoping that Lethal Weapon will follow in that vein.
No set date has been attached to the series and it's not yet known if the series will reach our waters but it is down as part of the FOX 2016-2017 line-up.
