Film charting Pulp's rise set to premiere this autumn
The film will feature narration from Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker.
A film charting the rise of Pulp is set to premiere on Mubi this autumn.
The band have also announced a new album, Live!, recorded at their 2025 O2 gig in London and set for release on August 28.
The film, Pulp: What Do You Do for An Encore?, is directed by Gareth Jennings, who worked on the music videos for ‘Help the Aged’ and ‘A Little Soul’ from their 1998 album This Is Hardcore.
It will combine footage of their global tour last year with never-before-seen archival clips. It is narrated by frontman Jarvis Cocker and features 20 of the band’s songs.
The movie is a Mubi production, edited by Barney Pilling (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Mrs Harris Goes to Paris). It is produced by Octavia Peissel (Asteroid City, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar), Danny Gabai, Amy Rattray and Paul Dugdale.
Executive producers are Stuart Goldstein, Tom Healy, Rosie Taylor, Harper Simon, Mark Sainsbury, Cocker and Jeanette Lee.
Formed in Sheffield in 1978, Pulp struggled to find success in the 80s but gained prominence with the release of His N Hers in 1994, which featured hits like ‘Lipgloss’ and ‘Do You Remember the First Time’ and Different Class, which debuted at No.1 in 1995.
Speaking to Hot Press last year, Jarvis Cocker explained how the record came together.
"In fact Different Class was recorded quite quickly," he said, "because we had a hit with 'Common People' and we hadn't got an album to follow it up with. I'd become very convinced that record needed to come out as soon as possible, otherwise we'd miss a moment."
They took a decade-long break following the release of their seventh album, We Love Life in 2001, having sold more than 10 million records and headlining Glastonbury twice. They reunited briefly in 2011 to play a slew of festivals.
Pulp unveiled their comeback album More, and the Here Comes More Tour through a surprise announcement in April 2025, followed by the release of the lead single 'Spike Island'.
The band are set to perform at All Together Now on July 30.
