Festival Voices – The Wran: "There’s a nice sense of people looking after each other at Irish festivals"
The Wran look ahead to this year's festival season
The Wran:
"A lot of our friends go to Irish festivals, and it’s nice to see people you know there and have the craic with them. They always show up to the gigs and rally up a lot of people. There’s a nice sense of people looking after each other at Irish festivals as well, even if you don’t know them. The Irish fans are unlike anyone else – they’re well able to dance and mosh, it’s great to see.
"It’s cool when people go to our headline shows after seeing us at festivals. There’s an excitement with being at a festival as well, and playing alongside your favourite artists. This summer, we’re excited to see Christy Moore at All Together Now, as well as Geese at Electric Picnic, and Mick Flannery and Susan O’Neill at When Next We Meet.
"The unknown, with an international festival, is great, because we’ve been going to Irish festivals for years. There’s also a massive folk and trad movement at the moment, so anywhere we’ve gone outside of Ireland, we’ve gotten an amazing reception."
• The Wran play When Next We Meet on Saturday, May 30.
