Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin announces fundraiser gig for Dublin Central by-election, featuring John Francis Flynn, Varo and more
As well as being a musician, Ó Ceannabháin is also the People Before Profit candidate for the upcoming by-election in Dublin Central.
Musician Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin has announced a fundraiser gig at The Button Factory on April 22 for the Dublin Central by-election.
Joining Ó Ceannabháin on the night are artists John Francis Flynn, VARO, Saltaire and Lebanese-Irish singer and researcher Niamh Keady-Tabbal.
Through her work documenting border violence in the Mediterranean, Keady-Tabbal has gathered Arabic songs of exile and resistance from Lebanon, Palestine and Syria. She sings these alongside sean-nós songs that she has gathered from Irish singers.
John Francis Flynn is an Irish singer and multi-instrumentalist whose work traverses the worlds of traditional and contemporary folk music. He is a founding member of the traditional Irish folk band Skippers' Alley. His solo work combines traditional material with influences from the worlds of post-punk, electronica, improvisation and contemporary music.
VARO are Dublin-based singers and fiddle players Lucie Azconaga (from France) and Consuelo Nerea Breschi (from Italy) who perform Irish traditional songs and tunes with arrangement influences from the folk, baroque and classical traditions, weaving around the melodies with harmonies, drones and countermelody.
Saltaire are a Dublin-based trio – comprised of Kaitlin Cullen-Verhauz (vocals, cello), Kinsella (guitar) and Conor Lyons (bodhrán, bouzouki) – who bring together diverse influences from Irish and American folk and trad music.
All members are long-time session musicians and have been part of acclaimed groups including The Bonny Men and Frankie Gavin & De Dannan.
Tickets for the gig are on sale now and can be purchased here.
