Dusk Till Dawn
Executed with a verve and vigour that promise great things from this young Connemara player
This unusual collaboration between an elder statesman of trad and one of its newest young Turks is divided into three parts: Warming Up, featuring such well-known tunes as ‘The Bag of Spuds’ and ‘The Woman of the House’; Dedication Time, consisting mostly of melodies composed by Charlie in honour of various individuals; and In Full Swing, which does exactly what it says on the tin – session standards like ‘The Old Grey Goose’, ‘Lord Gordon’s’ and ‘The Musical Priest’, with Lennon’s fiddle and Connolly’s accordion in perfect tandem. The highlight of the album is a breathtaking version of a Bach prelude originally written for violin, adapted by Connolly for solo accordion and executed with a verve and vigour that promise great things from this young Connemara player.
