Donovan plays the Olympia
The folk legend is also digitally re-releasing a large chunk of his back catalogue.
Veteran Mallow-residing folk singer Donovan plays a rare Dublin headliner on October 6 in the Olympia, tickets for which are €29 and go on sale this Friday.
In the meantime, the singer is re-releasing all of his ‘70s output – that’s over 100 songs – through his donovan.ie website. There’ll be one album a fortnight starting this week with cult classic Open Road.
“It was 1970, the amazing decade of the ‘60s had just ended and I was ready to just do what I liked,” the singer reflects. “The album was produced in the Morgan Studios in Willesden, North London. Downstairs Paul McCartney was making his first solo album. Hear me play Paul‘s Fender Strat on ‘Changes’!”
We’ve seen Donovan a couple of times in recent years and can report that his voice is as pristine as ever. He’s also happy to bash out the hits with ‘Sunshine Superman’, ‘Mellow Yellow’, 'Jennifer Juniper' and ‘Universal Soldier’ all present and correct!
