David Burke - Where Colours Swim
Debut from well-travelled Kildare Troubadour
He’s busked his way across Ireland and the US. However, this UCD business graduate has his sights set on bigger things, as this highly polished debut album attests. Unashamedly commercial with radio and chart action clearly in mind, Burke isn’t a million miles away from the likes of Ryan Sheridan, with a touch of Maroon 5 in the songwriting department.
The tunes, while a tad generic-sounding, are accessible, melodic and catchy with memorable choruses and impressive arrangements. ‘Clothes On The Floor’ has a classic ’60s pop flavour while ‘Love Hate’ is a folksier, more rousing affair. Elsewhere, current single ‘Beautiful Mind’ is a low-key ballad with the requisite heart-tugging moments while the uplifting ‘Delight’ boasts a Caribbean lilt with neat brass arrangements. Burke has an easy-on-the-ear, if not distinctive, voice while the playing and production values are not only impeccable but big-budget sounding.
Key Track: 'Clothes On The Floor'
