Daniel Figgis: Dun Laoghaire composer-in-residence
Daniel Figgis has been selected for the composer-in-residence program of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council
Notorious for his too-way-out-for-'94 Skipper album – re-released to critical acclaim in 2000 – Figgis' experimental approach to composition has seen him sample everything from a swing being swung to a clock being wound.
For the Composer in Residence program, Figgis will use a range of old and new technologies to create a new work for locally based brass quintet, the Ottoni Ensemble. He will also deliver a series of lectures based on the themes of intellectual copyright and "recomposition".
The residency takes place from May to October 2004, and culminates in 'Tamper' - a spectacular multimedia event incorporating live music performance with a surround sound set-up and integrated video projection/lighting design. It will take place at Marlay Park, Rathfarnham on September 24 and 25.
