One of Ireland’s most revered singers is back. And he has inked a new deal with Sony into the bargain.
Damien Dempsey has a new album ready to roll. Entitled Soulsun, the record has been slated for release on May 26th in Ireland - and it will receive a simultaneous release across the world. It is his seventh original album.
In 2016, Damien released No Force On Earth, a body of work that commemorated the 1916 Rising. That followed It’s All Good – The Best of Damien Dempsey in 2014, which entered the Irish charts at No.1.
The good news is that the iconic Irish singer has renewed his deal with Sony Music, representing a clear statement of faith by the record company in one of their most important Irish signings of recent times. The album is being released on ABC in Australia.
The finishing touches are currently being put to the record in New Aer Studios in Kilburn, London, with producer John Reynolds – who has worked extensively with Damien in the past as well as with Brian Eno and Karl Hyde, Seun Kuti, Sinead O’Connor, Lumiere, Jah Wobble – and dozens more.
“It’s an anthemic record,” John Reynolds says. “It's a new direction for Damien. It's five years since Almighty Love, so we’re looking forward to getting it out into the universe."
And, in equal measure, we're looking forward to hearing it. Watch this space.
