Critics' Choice 1990
The top five albums of 1990 as chosen by the Hotpress critics.
1. Fatima Mansions Viva Dead Ponies [kitchenware]
Cathal Coughlan & Co. delivered big time with this 19-tracker, which married guitar noise bombast to a plaintive Scott Walker croon. If only the greatest living Corkman – sorry Roy – hadn’t shagged that statue of the Virgin Mary, he’d be huge.
2. World Party – Goodbye Jumbo [ensign]
3. Prefab Sprout – Jordan: The Comeback [kitchenware]
4. Pixies – Bossanova [4ad]
5. Something Happens – Stuck Together With God’s Glue [virgin]
