Critics' Choice 1978
The top five albums of 1978 as voted for by the Hotpress critics.
1. Van Morrison Wavelength [Warner Brothers]
A return to the accessibility of Saint Dominick’s Preview, this was Van at his most joyous and upbeat. As a result, Wavelength became the Northern cowboy’s fastest selling album to date. From ‘Kingdom Hall’ through ‘Natalia’ to ‘Hungry For Your Love’ there’s a wonderful warmth to what is a great record.
2. Elvis Costello – This Year's Model [Radar]
3. Gerry Rafferty – City To City [U.A.]
4. Bruce Springsteen – Darkness On The Edge Of Town [CBS]
5. Talking Heads – More Songs About Buildings And Food [Sire]
