Ciaran Hope scores award-winning film
Now based in LA, the Meath man is earning plaudits Stateside.
Meath-born, Los Angeles-based composer Ciaran Hope supplies the score for the Truth About Kerry, which was shot in Waterville and “follows a young American woman (Stana Katic, Castle) as she travels to a remote village in Ireland to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding her best friend Kerry's death. She realises that the village may be hiding more secrets than she thought, and it isn't long before she develops an obsessive belief that her friend's death may have been no accident.”
The winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the inaugural LA Femme Film Festival, it’s the work of Irish writer-director Katie Torpey who enthuses: “The score Ciarán created was exactly what I wanted. He’s great at composing music that evokes an emotional response to scenes with little or no dialogue and knows how to take an ordinary scene and use music to make it extraordinary.”
Receiving its Irish premiere in August as part of Waterville’s Charlie Chaplin Film Festival, Truth About Kerry will hopefully go on general release here in the New Year.
Hope, whose credits also include The Man In The Iron Mask, Insider, It’s A Guy Thing and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, is currently composing for a big budget Mother Teresa biopic.
