Changed Days, Same Roots

UK-based all-women band The Poozies have gone through a multitude of lineup changes in the more than ten years they’ve been on the road. The current roster includes three of the original founders – Scottish harpists Mary MacMaster and Patsy Seddon (of the duo Sileas) and piano accordionist Karen Tweed – plus new recruit Eilidh Shaw on fiddle, with all four contributing superb harmony vocals. As on previous albums, their selection of material is madly eclectic, ranging from a traditional Polish song (in Polish) to Colum Sands’ hauntingly beautiful ‘Throw The Ball’ and from Scots Gaelic work songs to an unusual dirge-like version of ‘All I Want’ (from the musical My Fair Lady) – not to mention numerous impeccably played and arranged instrumentals, many of them new compositions by various members of the group.
