Chad Smith hints at possible retirement of The Red Hot Chilli Peppers
The drummer first joined the band in 1988.
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers' Chad Smith has hinted that the band may be close to coming to an end, after over 3 decades in the business.
Smith was asked in an interview with Sirius XM about how the band were still holding up, given that most of the members are now in their mid-50s. He responded with an anecdote of the band in which Flea asked "How much longer do you think we should… How do you think we should end this?" in a tour van after a gig.
Telling the story in the interview, Chad went on to say " I was, like, ‘I don’t know!’ I want to make records, I still love making records, but the touring part… I don’t know if we can continue. I don’t know if we can continue to do the long tours — the year, year and a half we normally do. That’s a good question.”
He also posited that a possible solution could be to strip back their lengthy tours. "We all have families and different things, your priorities shift a little bit. You kinda see that what’s gonna work for you maybe doesn’t necessarily work for other bands.”
"We’re just so grateful that people want to come and see us play, and we love to perform. I don’t know in the future how that’s gonna look.”
