Brògeal announce Belfast and Dublin shows
The Scottish band last played in Ireland at the Other Voices show in December
Brògeal have announced two new Irish shows, in Belfast at the Limelight on May 6, and in Dublin at The Academy on May 7.
The show comes after the release of the band’s debut album Tuesday Paper Club last year.
The “folk-punk-indie-pop” band was founded by vocalist/guitarist Daniel Harkins and vocalist/banjoist Aidan Callaghan, who met on bus rides to Celtic football games, and also includes accordion player Sam MacMillan, bassist Euan Mundie, and drummer Luke Mortimer. All five are from Falkirk, Scotland.
“A lot of bands will try to dull down their Scottish accents, or write in a way that would be more acceptable in London,” said Harkins in a 2025 interview with Hot Press. “We hate all that fucking shit. We really wanted to be as fucking Scottish as we could be. We shove it down folks’ throats – and we’ve always done that…. All the people that are trying to dull it down, and trying to sound like English acts, think that will help them – but I actually think it’s the opposite. People like to see people being themselves.”
The band has amassed a diverse fan base, which they attribute to their wide range of influences.
“The thing about our music is that it transcends all age groups,” said Harkins. “You’ve got 14-year-old boys with their mums, they’re all going mental, you've got old punks, middle-aged women, young adults, old people, everybody's digging it, you know? There's something for everybody because you've got your folky influences, The Pogues, with this indie edge and pop sensibilities.”
On tour, Brògeal have supported artists such as Paolo Nutini, The Mary Wallopers and The Lathums. They last performed in Ireland as part of the Other Voices show in December.
Tickets go on sale Friday, February 13.
