Bricknasty release new single ‘Boyfriend’
The Dublin band came out with a live video performance of their latest song today.
About a year after the release of their first EP, INA CRUELER, Bricknasty are back with the new single ‘Boyfriend’, under the UK label FAMM.
The band has gained a cult following in Dublin over the past few years, notably performing as the Sugar Club's house band.
The groovy single was written a few years ago about lead singer Fatboy’s mother and her girlfriend at the time. The video is a live clip taken in London’s historic Bush Hall, where Bricknasty recently shot a film.
After a rise to prominence over lock-down, Bricknasty have become well-established as pacesetters of independent Irish music, through anarchic writing and jazz-influenced sounds.
In a 2023 interview for Hot Press, Fatboy reflected on his early days as an artist: “When I started making songs, and when I started making art, I always felt real estranged from Ballymun, and even from my family and friends. For years I couldn’t understand what they wanted me to be. It’s not that I didn’t feel loved. It was always just a thing like, ‘Ah, he’s a bit weird...’
Bricknasty’s latest single, ‘Boyfriend’, is available now on all platforms.
