Brazilian jazz legend Hermeto Pascoal for Dublin
Hermeto Pascoal puts the 'big' back into Big Band this weekend when he plays Vicar St. with an all-star twenty-piece band from the UK
With the Dublin jazz scene wetting its collective pants over the arrival of Hermeto Pascoal this Saturday, tickets are still available for the Vicar St. Big Band extravaganza.
As well as being Brazil's foremost Santa Clause doppelganger, Hermeto "The Sorcerer" Pascoal has been described by one-time collaborator Miles Davis as "one of the most important musicians on the planet".
With a creative playground that spans Brazilian jazz, chamber music, free improvisation, pop and rock, Pascoal's capacity as a composer and multi-instrumentalist doesn't stop at keyboards, woodwinds and accordions – he's also been known to use found objects like kettles, plastic toys and balloon pumps.
For his May 8 appearance - his first ever in Dublin - Pascoal is accompanied by no less than twenty of the UK's finest musicians, including Peter King, Iain Ballamy, Julian Arguelles, Henry Lowther and the Mondesir brothers.
Tickets are available from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.
