Hot Press is deeply saddened to hear of the death early on Monday morning in San Francisco of broadcaster Bob Gallico. He was 83.
The American arrived in Dublin during the Great Pirate Wars where he landed a newsreading gig with Chris Cary’s Radio Nova.
Also an actor who bit-parted in Ballykissangel, he achieved cult status on Nova’s Brekkie Trekkie with Declan Meehan, the current East Coast FM morning man.
“His partnership on breakfast with Declan on Nova in the 80's was one of the finest,” agrees TV3 and Dublin’s Q102 man Aidan Cooney; “A gentleman and a friend. Radio just lost one of the best. Bring on Radio Heaven,” says Sunshine’s Lynsey Dolan; “A superb broadcaster with a golden voice,” reflects 2fm’s Alan Swan; “Radio legend” is the verdict of Today FM Managing Editor Gareth O’Connor; “True gent” adds his Marconi House colleague Phil Cawley and “A gentleman, a giant of broadcasting and the most generous, lovely person. He really was one of a kind,” mourns FM104’s Hazel Nolan.
