Weezer announce sixteenth studio album The Gold Album
First single ‘We Might As Well Be Strangers’ featuring Wednesday out now
Weezer have announced their latest self-titled album, unofficially dubbed The Gold Album, which is set for release on August 21.
The lead single, ‘We Might As Well Be Strangers’, features a duet between lead singer Rivers Cuomo and Wednesday's Karly Hartzman.
The album was produced by Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume, formerly known as Kenny Bears, who said they wanted to make “the most violent Weezer album ever.”
The announcement comes after the band revealed details of the Weezer: The Gathering tour, which will kick off in September and travel across the U.S. The Shins and Silversun Pickups will open on selected dates.
The Gold Album follows the band's colour-themed album tradition, which began with their 1994 debut, The Blue Album.
It is the band's sixteenth studio album and their first since Van Weezer and OK Human, both released in 2021. In 2022, the band released SZNZ, a four-EP project inspired by Vivaldi's The Four Seasons.
