Bob Dylan performs 'Lakes Of Pontchartrain' live in Killarney
This is the first time he has performed the traditional folk ballad in over 34 years.
Bob Dylan performed 'Lakes Of Pontchartrain' live at his concert at the Gleneagle Arena in Killarney on Sunday night.
Dylan often featured the song on his ongoing Never Ending Tour, but removed it from the set list around 1991 - making this his first performance of the ballad in over 34 years.
The traditional folk song originated in the US during the 1830s, with the lyrics referencing the Louisiana terrain. The track was popularised by Irish supergroup Planxty and appeared on their 1974 album Cold Blow And The Rainy Night, transforming the song into an Irish classic. Frontman Christy Moore later recorded a solo rendition of the tune in 1983.
Keeping on theme, he performed Van Morrison's 'Going Down To Bangor' to crowds in Belfast last week. This was the first time the folk singer had performed this particular Morrison track live, but the two would often cover each other's work in the past.
Dylan's concludes his Irish tour with a show at the 3Arena in Dublin tonight, with limited tickets available here.
