Biig Piig-fronted Salmon Cat to make Irish debut this month

London-based band Salmon Cat have announced their first appearances in Ireland. On September 24 they will play at BelloBar in Dublin, followed by the Other Voices festival in Derry on September 25.

Salmon Cat consists of Biig Piig (vocals), Mac Wetha (production, vocals), and Alfie Jackson and Harry Hayman (guitar, songwriting).

Biig Piig, the alias of Jessica Smyth, was born in Cork. She spent much of her childhood in Spain before moving to London. Her solo career has yielded four EPs and a recent debut album, 11:11. Smyth's sound has been called alt-pop, bedroom pop and electropop.

She and Wetha are also members of the NiNE8 collective.

The unofficial formation of Salmon Cat happened in 2016 when schoolfriends Alfie and Mac created a joke song Mac describes as "a Liam Lynch-inspired fake Mac Demarco song", to which Smyth added vocals.

The joke became the group's debut single, 'Trip To Dusseldorf'. The group have since released 8 singles and 3 EPs, most recently Chick Flick.
