BICEP announce new album Slug

BICEP have announced their third album Slug, which will drop on January 29, 2027. The 18-track record will be released by independent label Ninja Tune.

The group's three new singles 'Gas/Ultra/Equarium', along with a three-part short film was released yesterday, The film, directed by Alex Takács, follows a gang of pigeon fanciers on a heist. It explores themes of connection and freedom against surveillance and confinement.

The Belfast electronic duo dropped their first three singles for the new album, 'Air/Lemonder/Viper', in September. It was also launched with a three-part short film, which celebrates UK free party and sound system culture. It was directed by Palestinian-American director Ryan Doubiago.

Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar shared the process behind their new record.

"For this album we really wanted to massively broaden what we do. It felt like a new start for us. We wanted to make a much more varied album than our previous ones and push what people might expect BICEP to sound like.

"We just wanted an album full of surprises and contrast. We’ve always played with melancholy in our music and tried to combine feelings of happiness and sadness, but this album brings that into a much more fully realised world… It’s about putting conflicting feelings together because they become bigger and richer next to each other."

Collaborators for Slug include Clark, Eartheater, Lauren Duffus, George Riley, SOARR,  Saskia, Kehina, KUČKA, Sassy 009, Rowena Fysx, Julia Kent and Zosia Jagodzinska.

BICEP were recently announced as performers for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2027, other artists in the lineup include Fontaines D.C., Madra Salach, and Gilla Band.

The band have two Australian dates; Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on October 31, and Melbourne's The Underpass on November 1 and 2. Following a three-year hiatus, their BICEP LIVE show will return for sold-out concert at London's Royal Albert Hall on November 26.
