Bear in Heaven - Time Is Over One Day Old
NOTHING TOO DEEP AT THE BOTTOM OF THESE OCEANS
Brooklyn three-piece Bear In Heaven are back with their fourth album, the enigmatically titled Time Is Over One Day Old. It sees the group continue to polish their previously lo-fi sound: opener ‘Autumn’ layers mono-note synths with pristine drums and what sound, bizarrely, like seagull noises. Here, Jon Phillpot’s restrained vocals blend seamlessly in a way that is gloomy without coming off as overly dark.
Second track ‘Time Between’ is in a similar vein: the band clearly have a penchant for ‘80s-style reverb-drenched synths. At times the record feels samey and no one is going to accuse them of an excess of originality. Overall, however, Time Is Over One Day Old is enjoyably atmospheric.
