Apple Music announce new concert venue in Battersea Power Station

Apple Music have announced they will be opening a new concert hall at Battersea Power Station in London. Apple's UK headquarters are also based in the building.

The venue, called Apple Music Hall, will have a capacity of 600 people, and will host one-off concerts by prominent and emerging artists. All shows will be filmed and broadcast live online.

The tech giant held the iTunes festivals from 2007 to 2016. The festival saw artists such as Amy Winehouse, Calvin Harris, and Adele perform free concerts at venues like The Roundhouse and Koko. A number of Irish artists performed at the festival, including The Script, Imelda May, and Two Door Cinema Club.

The Battersea Power Station was used as an album cover for Pink Floyd's 1977 record Animals. The cover shows an inflatable pig floating between the building's two towers. The concept album examined society in 1970s Britain.

Built between 1929 and 1935, the Art-Deco building was originally a coal-fired power station. It was decommissioned in 1980 and remained empty, falling into disrepair until 2014.

The former power station was redeveloped, and opened to the public in 2022, the site now includes apartments, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues.

The opening act for the concert hall is expected to be announced soon.
