Amanda St John Honours the Irish Landscape in 'Take a Leap' Video
The track comes from The Muscle Shoals Sessions, which St John recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Singer-songwriter Amanda St John has released a music video to accompany her latest single, ‘Take a Leap.’
Full of vivid shots of St John’s native County Antrim coast, the video is an ode to home and nature. As St John spreads her arms and lets loose her soulful voice, the gratitude she feels for the familiar landscape is palpable.
‘Take a Leap’ itself is also full of gratitude—for life, and for the chance St John has to chase her dreams. During the leadup to the track’s huge chorus, she sings “sometimes you gotta take a leap / and trust that what will be will be / and put your faith into your dreams.”
St John does not take her life and career for granted. She told Irish News that her inspiration to pursue singing was a near death experience. When she was 32, her car “plunged almost 300 feet down the side of a mountain outside Ballycastle,” leaving her without a pulse.
As she fought for her life, St John says she vowed to “to start singing again and pursuing my dream if I survived.”
Already, she has begun to live her dream. ‘Take a Leap’ is from St John’s new album, The Muscle Shoals Sessions, which she had the opportunity record at the iconic FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Other artists who have recorded at the country music landmark include Aretha Franklin, Alison Krauss, Little Richard, Jason Isbell and many more. St John was the first Irish independent act to join these famous names.
While working there, St John played with bassist David Hood and pianist Clayton Ivey, both of whom have supported many of the legendary acts to grace FAME studios.
St John has also received European recognition. RTE Radio 1 and BBC Radio Ulster named her new release ‘Album Of The Week,’ and her powerful live vocals have become a fixture at festivals throughout Ireland and the UK.
