Alpha Chrome Yayo looks to the stars on his dazzling new LP Skylight Sessions
Listen to the new release from Alpha Chrome Yayo below.
The mysterious music maker known as Alpha Chrome Yayo has just released his latest opus Skylight Sessions, which reaffirms his status as one of the most interesting and inventive new voices in Northern Ireland. Raved about in synthwave circles, the 11 track concept album was written and recorded under the multi-instrumentalist’s window and provides a glimpse into worlds both real and imagined.
The back catalogues of Jean-Michel Jarre, Joe Hisaishi and Brian Eno are touchstones for the record and if ambient vibes, flute-spiced space oddities and sci-fi sounds that are as cool as a refrigerated penguin are your bag, then check it out asap.
Not much is known about the shadowy figure dubbed Alpha Chrome Yayo. Some say he’s a modern day Ancient Mariner, cursed to sail the sonic seas and tasked with committing his musical exploits to tape. Others say he’s merely a man named [REDACTED] from [REDACTED]. Either way, what we do know about the ever inventive and industrious artist is that when it comes to releasing records, his hunger rivals the great Galactus himself.
If Skylight Sessions has whetted your appetite for more tasty tunes, then we heartily recommend the recently released Let’s Get Cookin’, a food-based mini album which comes with its very own recipe e-book. Also check out the golf-based concept record 19th Hole and my own personal favourite Choke, which is sprinkled with some icy black metal-esque atmospherics.
All of these releases and many more are available on Bandcamp (in fact 19th Hole is featured in the site’s all time best selling category for Northern Ireland) and you can grab them digitally as well as on limited edition cassettes and MiniDiscs (if you’re quick off the mark).
