All The Luck In The World
Debut from Wicklow teen sensations
Some of us are already (unwittingly) familiar with this oddly monikered trio. Their song ‘Never’ is featured on the Trivago TV advert and has scored 800,000 YouTube hits worldwide to date. Students at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM), the 19-year-olds trade in sparsely-adorned folk and their debut, recorded largely in Berlin for a German label, offers an intriguing selection of soundscapes.
The songs are characterised by extended, finger-plucked acoustic guitar and intimate, almost whispered vocals. Fans of Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes might find something to savour on the atmospheric ‘Conquer’ and ethereal ‘Away’, while ‘Settle’ is both hypnotic and haunting. ‘Haven’ adds strings while album closer ‘Bleaching’ benefits from a richly-textured rhythmic backdrop. Intriguing.
