Alex Chilton & Charlie Gillett R.I.P.
Two of the music industry's good guys have passed away.
Team Hot Press is saddened to hear of the death of Alex Chilton, the Box Tops and Big Star man who suffered a heart attack in New Orleans.
The 59-year-old had been due in Austin, Texas this weekend to play at the South By South West showcase festival.
His loss will be keenly felt by Wilco, Primal Scream, REM, The Replacements, Primal Scream and Cheap Trick who all cited him as a major influence.
Also passing away yesterday was Charlie Gillett, the veteran DJ and musicologist whose C.V. included co-managing Ian Dury’s first group Kilburn & The High Roads; co-producing the debut Lene Lovich album; publishing Paul Hardcastle’s ‘19’; and penning the excellent The Sound Of The City.
An absolute gent, Charlie will be sorely missed.
