Album Review: Bob Vylan Presents The Price of Life
Londoner’s rage against the machine
The place they call the United Kingdom has never been more divided than right now. While our neighbours continue to weather multiple storms, the good news is that their underground music scene offers a ray of light in the dark. This London two-piece are leading the charge, armed with an arsenal of genre-fluid cuts that take a cleaver to Cruel Britannia. Described by the duo as a concept album, their latest opus – fuelled by noughties punk and hip-hop – examines the true cost of living in a society that’s declared cash and commerce king.
An unflinching, exhilarating record from start to finish, fans of Skindred, Body Count and early Gallows will adore the likes of the bullish ‘Big Man’ and explosive ‘GDP’, which features guitar from Gallows’ Lags. Littered with killer lines – ‘Wicked & Bad’s “Let’s go dig up Maggie’s grave and ask her where that milk went?” is an instant classic – if the times really are a-changin’, then Bob Vylan’s latest LP suggests it’s for the better.
