AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd charged with attempting 'to procure a murder'
Could the case rule his band out of the Slane 2015 running?
The shock news coming out of New Zealand is that AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been charged with attempting to procure the murders of two people.
The 60-year-old appeared in court early this morning following a police raid on his home in Tauranga, which also lead to charges of possessing methamphetamine and cannabis, and threatening to kill.
Entering no plea to the charges, Rudd was bailed until his next court appearance on November 27. Judge Louis Bidois ordered him to have no contact with the person he allegedly tried to hire to carry out the two hits.
Rudd moved to New Zealand in 1983 after being sacked from the band - he was reinstated ten-years later - and owns a restaurant, Phil’s Place, there.
While it’s for the courts to decide whether or not he’s guilty, the case could have ramifications here with Lord Henry Mountcharles making no secret of the fact that AC/DC have long been on his Slane shopping-list. With an upcoming world tour to promote their new Rock Or Bust album, the band had been among the favourites to storm the castle in 2015.
