Smouldering set from blues-rock singer
Including a sensitive reworking of Dylan’s ‘I’ll Be Your Baby To-night’, this is mostly a collection of originals from the pen of the Dublin-born singer, formerly known as Clara Monahan. Backed by a sterling bunch of Irish musicians of the calibre of James Delaney, Gavin Ralston and KJ McEvoy, Rose brings a raw rootsy blues edge to the vocals on her enticing folk and folk-rock efforts. There’s a loose Santana-like feel to ‘Girl’, while ‘Leave The Bottle’ hits the spot somewhere between Shaz Oye and Mary Coughlan, and ‘Sex And Music’ positively sizzles. With Imelda May this year’s it girl, Rose might be entering the fray at just the right time.
