Generally somber offering from the original Nirvana
Patrick Campbell-Lyons hails from Co Waterford and he and his version of Nirvana have built a cult following since the 1960s with a series of sporadic releases. This is a new collection of original songs, apart from a nervy version of Richard Thompson’s ‘Galway To Graceland’, and Love’s ‘Live And let Live’. ‘A Prayer Before A Kiss’ and ‘Unforgiven’ have Lyons’ voice full of depth, a la John Cale. There’s a more produced feel to ‘Falling’ and ‘All I Do Is For You’, the latter clad in the psychedelia of Nirvana’s vintage era, while ‘Reach’ has a jauntiness that breaks the sombre mood, and ‘Nothing Changes’ has a Buddy Holly/Beatles vibe. Lyons’ place in the Irish pantheon has been underplayed, so this intriguing collection will help his cause. The Dali in the title is the Lama, not Salvador.
