Oasis brothers and Joe Biden celebrate Mayo's All-Ireland win

Former US President Joe Biden and Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, among other public figures, have shared their support for the Mayo Senior Football Team in winning the All-Ireland against Kerry in Croke Park.

The last time Mayo brought home the Sam Maguire was in 1951, despite reaching the final 11 times since 1989.

Liam and Noel Gallagher celebrated the win in posts on X. Their mother Peggy Gallagher is originally from Charlestown in Mayo and they would visit their late grandmother there.

Joe Biden congratulated the team in a post on X.

"For the first time in 75 years, the Sam Mcguire Cup comes home to Mayo, Ireland," he said.

"I said it three years ago when I was in Ballina: Mayo for Sam!"

The former US President has ancestral roots that trace back 200 years in Ballina, which he visited three years ago at the end of a tour around Ireland.

Other figures expressing their support for the team on social media include Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who said in a post on X that he is "proud to have roots in County Mayo."

Irish golfer Shane Lowry said that "sport can be cruel at times and the people from Mayo went through their fair share of it. Enjoy the celebrations."

"This team means so much to everyone across the world with Mayo blood in their veins," former Ireland footballer Kevin Kilbane said in a tribute to the team.

The Mayo All-Ireland Champions Homecoming will be held today at Hastings Insurance McHale Park in Castlebar, Mayo. The gates will open at 3pm and the Senior Team are expected to arrive at 6pm. There will be live performances from local musicians including Gorilla Radio, Billow Wood and For Folk Sake.
