Mental Health in Music podcast hopes to shine a light on the struggles of artists
The podcast, hosted by Rachel Masterson, aims to address both the uncertainty around the pandemic and how musicians can boost their long-term wellbeing.
Rachel Masterson - host of the popular ‘A Cuppa With’ show on 8radio.com - has launched the six-part Mental Health in Music podcast series.
The podcast aims to address the mental health struggles musicians have spoken about in interviews with Rachel on her radio show.
Throughout last year, the frequency of the mental health discussions increased as musicians spoke of their feelings of anxiety, hopelessness and isolation during the COVID19 pandemic.
In the wake of the continued uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, with the complete detriment to the live music industry, there are massive ramifications to the mental health of musicians who have lost their livelihood.
Each episode is one hour long, featuring musicians voicing their experiences and a mental health professional covering their topic of expertise. The themes covered in the podcast are dealing with uncertainty, beating imposter syndrome, finding your identity, knowing your values, knowing your worth and learning how to create boundaries and how to build your wellbeing.
The episodes will premiere on 8radio.com at 9pm on the final Thursday of the month from January until June of this year, and will go on all podcast platforms on the final Saturday of the month.
In episode one, we hear about how musicians and music venue owners are struggling. Guests include Jamie Mulrooney from Doppler, Micah Music, Robin James Hurt, Claire Nolan from Lypton Village, Siobhan Shiels of Great White Lies, Dave Judge of Abner Browns Barbershop and The Underground Venue and Dave Reid of Minding Creative Minds.
