Will Smith to star as tennis coach Richard Williams in upcoming film
The 'Fresh Prince' actor will be playing Richard Williams, father to legendary tennis players Venus and Serena Williams.
In the new trailer released for Warner Bros' upcoming film, King Richard, it was revealed that Will Smith would play the titular role.
The movie focuses on the upbringing of celebrated athletes Venus and Serena Williams, played by Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton, through the eyes of their father, Richard Williams, with a "relentless drive and unapologetic vision to change the game."
In the trailer, Smith's character says, "this next step you have got to take. You are not going to be just representing us, you are going to be representing every little black girl on earth."
The film also stars Aunjanue Ellis (HBO's Lovecraft Country) as Oracene "Brandi" Williams, Tony Goldwyn (Scandal) as coach Paul Cohen and Jon Bernthal (Baby Driver) as coach Rick Macci.
Venus and Serena, accompanied by their sister, Isha Price, are executive producers for the film sharing their journey growing up in Compton, California to becoming tennis superstars.
