WATCH: the trailer for Charlotte Gainsbourg’s documentary on her mother Jane Birkin
The documentary is Gainsbourg's directorial debut and will premiere at Cannes later today.
The trailer for Jane by Charlotte, a documentary by actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg on her legendary mother, actress and singer Jane Birkin, has been released.
Jane by Charlotte is Gainsbourg's directorial debut and premieres today at Cannes Film Festival.
The documentary is made up of a series of interviews between mother and daughter that took place over nearly three years. The first series of interviews after a 2018 Tokyo concert by Birkin went badly. But in the end, according to Gainsbourg, Birkin "did understand that it was done in a caring way, that it is a declaration of love for my mother."
Shot in Tokyo, France and New York, and edited by mother and daughter in a linear fashion, the film ends in October 2020.
Gainsbourg also said plans are under way to open up the home of her father, the equally legendary filmmaker Serge Gainsbourg as a museum.
