The Weeknd will help develop new HBO series, The Idol.
The pop icon will co-write, produce and star in the series.
The Weeknd will co-write, produce and star in a new HBO series, The Idol, which will be executive produced by Euphoria creator, Sam Levinson.
The Weeknd’s creative producer, Reza Fahim will also work as a co-creator on the project. Ashley Levinson, Kevin Turner and Aaron L. Gilbert will co-executive produce alongside Sam Levinson while Joseph Epstein will work as a co-writer and a showrunner on the series.
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, will develop the series which follows a female pop singer who falls in love with a Los Angeles club owner who turns out to be a cult leader.
He previously acted in the Safdie Brothers critically acclaimed Uncut Gems in 2019. He also voice acted in American Dad and Robot Chicken. Wassim "Sal" Slaiby and La Mar C. Taylor, two members of the Weeknd’s XO brain trust, will work as executive producers on The Idol.
