The My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchise's return is announced with a new trailer
Written and directed by Nia Vardalos, Universal Pictures' My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is coming to theatres this September.
By the guiding hand of actress, director, and screenwriter Nia Vardalos, the comedy film series My Big Fat Greek Wedding becomes a trilogy. The news came out today alongside the first trailer from Universal Pictures of the new film, which is featured below.
A destination flick, it follows the Portokalos family after the death of their patriarch, Costas "Gus" Portokalos, played by the late Michael Constantine. The family is trying to fulfil his final wishes: reconnecting with their roots in Greece.
Organised by Nia Vardalos' character and Gus's daughter, the main protagonist of both previous films, Fotoula "Toula" Portokalos, the whole family makes their way back to Gus's childhood village for a reunion.
There Toula endeavours to reconcile with her fathers' old friends on his behalf while her daughter, played by Elena Kampouris, struggles in the presence of Aristotle (Elias Kacavas), a romantic partner she previously ghosted.
Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman are working as producers for the project, with Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer, and Steven Shareshian working as executive producers.
Reprising their past roles of the My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchise are John Corbett as Toula's husband, Ian Miller, Gia Carides as Cousin Nikki, Joey Fatone as Cousin Angelo, Louis Mandylor as Nick Portakalos, Lainie Kazan as Maria Portokalos, and Andrea Martin as Thiea Voula.
The film is set to come out later this year, on September 8th.
