The series' killer doll will reportedly be getting a boyfriend in the new season...
In a statement shared on Netflix's official social media platforms yesterday, Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Squid Game, has officially announced the return of the hit series, and has offered some hints about what we can expect from Season 2.
In the statement, shared alongside an ominous video of a robotic doll – resembling Young-hee from the first season – the show's creator notes that "a whole new round is coming."
"It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year," Hwang writes. "But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.
"And now, Gi-hun returns," the statement continues. "The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You'll also be introduced to Young-hee's boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round."
Squid Game clocked up 1.65 billion viewing hours during its first four weeks, following its worldwide release on Netflix on September 17.
